Helping Paws Maine

Why Foster?

Helping Paws Maine is searching for quality foster homes in the greater PORTLAND, MAINE area.  Our foster families need to be within 1-hour driving distance of our Vet in case the foster puppy needs to be seen while in foster care.

Since we do not have a physical shelter, our network of foster families commit to taking a rescue puppy or dog into their home and give him or her love, care and attention.  The average foster period is a week, but can be longer.

Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. By taking a dog in need temporarily into your home you are:

  • Freeing up a spot so our rescue group can take in another dog
  • Giving your foster dog the time he needs to be ready for adoption
  • Helping our rescue group learn more about the dog so he can end up in the best home possible
  • Socializing the dog to a home environment and possibly getting him used to being around other pets and different types of people
