Helping Paws Maine

Why Foster?

Helping Paws Maine is searching for quality foster homes in the greater PORTLAND, MAINE area.  Our foster families need to be within 30 minutes driving distance of our Vet in case the foster puppy needs to be seen while in foster care.

Since we do not have a physical shelter, our network of foster families commit to taking a rescue puppy or dog into their home and give him or her love, care and attention.  The average foster period is a week, but can be longer.

Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. By taking a dog in need temporarily into your home you are:

  • Freeing up a spot so our rescue group can take in another dog
  • Giving your foster dog the time he needs to be ready for adoption
  • Helping our rescue group learn more about the dog so he can end up in the best home possible
  • Socializing the dog to a home environment and possibly getting him used to being around other pets and different types of people
